Rewire your Brain Interesting viedeo to watch

Hello everybody,

I was surfing the net and trying to get more information on brain rewiring and came across the following

http://www.redorbit.com/news/video/science/5/rewiring_your_brain_to_break_bad_habits/22498/index.html

Please visit this if you can. This gives you some information on how brain rewires. I am really excited about this. I truly believe we can quit smoking by rewiring brains. Not only we can quit smoking but we can do a whole lot of things by rewiring brains. Patients with stroke, those who have lost the ability to speak... it's amazing what you can do with this brain rewiring.

The scientists have barely scratch the surface as far as this topic is concerned. Truly fascinating. Do see the video if you can.

Have a good weekend.

In the previous blog, I talked about rewiring your brain to quit smoking. The reality is our brain is getting rewired everyday. Here is a simple test.

Let's say you put your tooth brush in one place. Normally we don't change that position. Do this experiment. Change the location of the tooth brush and put in a different place in the bathroom.

The next day when you wake up and reach out to get your tooth brush to brush your teeth, guess where will you go? To the same place you normally keep it. If you change that place put it in another place permanently, eventually your mind will register that change and you will go the new place to grab the toothbrush. Now how is this related to rewiring your brain?

When you go to place A to grab your tooth brush, your brain is wired to think that your tooth brush is in place A. You don't even think about it, you just go to place A.

Now, let's take a look at what happens when you change the place and put it in place B.

The next day you wake up, your brain still thinks it is in place A. That is what your brain has learned. Even though it is place B you will still go to Place A because your brain has not rewired itself to acknowledge that the place has been changed to place B.

If you continue to keep the tooth brush at place B, eventually your brain will rewire and remember that your tooth brush is in place B.

Case in point, our brain is getting rewired constantly and we don't even know about it.

All you have to do is use the same technique to quit smoking by breaking these event based or emotion based associations in your brain.

How do you do it? You rewire your brain.

Let's revisit smoking after lunch.

it is an event based association. Your brain has been rewired to smoke after lunch. If you break that association by rewiring your brain, you will never smoke again after lunch.

Please do this experiment at home and let me know how it turned out for you.

That's all for now. Have a good night.

Here is a simple analysis of how your mind controls your smoking habit.

Let's say you smoke when you get angry and you smoke after lunch. These are the only times when you have found yourself smoking.

Here is the analysis.

Smoking when you are angry.

We have smoking associations in our mind that are either based on events or emotions.

This one is based on emotions. Your mind is wired to smoke when you get angry.

Here is another interesting part. Did you always smoke when you got angry? I mean when you were 5 , 6, or 7? No you did not. You did something else. May be cried or threw tantrum.

At some point in your life you started smoking when you started getting angry. So essentially, you rewired your brain to smoke instead of cry or any other thing you did when you were young.

The good thing is your mind has the ability to rewire your brain constantly. In fact you started smoking as a result of brain rewiring. Now you have rewire it to instruct it not to smoke when you get angry. Once you do that, you will never smoke again when you are angry. Just like you were 5,6, or 7. Pretty amazing when you think of what your mind can do.

Smoking after lunch
This falls under event based smoking. Your mind is wired to smoke after having lunch.

Did you always smoke after lunch? No
You did not smoke after lunch when you were 5, 6, or 7.
At some point in your life, you started smoking after lunch.
You rewired your brain so that every time you had lunch, it would trigger a desire to smoke.
Now we have to do the same thing. Rewire the brain by breaking that association between smoking and lunch. Once you break that association and rewire your brain, you wont smoke again after lunch. Pretty amazing if you ask me.

In the next blog I will discuss simple experiment that proves how we rewire our brain everyday.

That's all for now. Have a good night.

The final step is the execution of the plan.

Once you know why you smoke, it is easier to quit. It's like working on a well defined problem.

If a problem is well defined you are more likely to resolve it. That's exactly what the plan does for you. It defines your behavior. It shows you what is going on in your head when it comes to smoking.

Here is an example.

Let's say, you smoke after lunch, and after dinner and during coffee break.

If you know when you are smoking and why you are smoking, you can tackle one issue at a time and break the habit.

What is happening inside your head is very simple if you think about it.

Your brain is rewired. When you are on a coffee break, it sends a trigger that makes you feel like smoking. You were not born with that habit. At some point your brain got rewired to think that you need to smoke during coffee break. Now you have to unlearn that behavior and rewire your brain to break that association between coffee break and smoking. Once you do that, you have killed your desire to smoke. That is how you quit smoking.

The 3rd Step towards quitting smoking

The 3rd Step towards quitting smoking is to have a plan.

How do you develop a plan?

Simple

Study your smoking habit. Look for patterns. Your smoking is based on emotions and events.

For example, you might smoke when you are angry(emotion) or you might smoke with a cup of coffee (even: drinking coffee).

Once you define your behavior, it is much easier to work on it.

It is like working on a very well defined problem.

Now we know what the problem is.

We are ready to solve it.

The 2nd Step towards quitting smoking.

The 2nd step in quitting smoking is to have a desire to quit smoking. It is very important that you REALLY want to quit. If you are not totally committed, you will end up quitting many many times.
